I'd like to see more quality cult education literature out there to counter this type of pablum. Seems like cults are not really a part of the public consciousness anymore.

This dude is no different from the dubs and yet when his prophecy fails, a lot of KH's and assemblies will mention his cult as a warning example of false prophets in the time of the end. The hypocrisy will continue to be as disgusting as ever.

Crap Crap maybe it is smarter to put getting back in on HOLD so I can get to the bottom of this!
That's the scariest thing I've seen in this entire thread. Why would anybody who knows anything about the history of this cult want back in?

I thought the farm was older than that. Never realized they were building and investing right up until and through 1975. I had always thought they bought into the date, too. Scary how easily they suckered people in and how many of those are your local elders today.

Science says humans were nearly wiped out 70,000 years ago...so why did God allow this..NOT the flood!
by Witness 007 in70,000 years ago scientist say we had a "bottleneck in human evolution.
" due to an indonisian mega volcano erupting most of the earth was covered in darkness...ash covered as far as india.
dna evidence shows that human evolution slowed almost to a standstill till the population began to bounce back thousands of years later.

I was going to attend a meeting this morning and then I looked over this article. Even though it was expected, it's shocking to see how an article ostensibly on love can be so incredibly negative and divisive.
Decided to stay home.

The 4% increase is merely a numbers game.
First, they round up. If my math is correct (and someone can check it for me) it was actually a 3.39% increase, not a 4% increase in average publishers in the USA.
Second, the 2009 service year was the first one (and again, correct me if I'm wrong) in which elderly and infirm publishers could count as little as 15 minutes in a month and still be considered (read: counted for the stats) as an active publisher.
Third, it may have also been the first service year in which (once again, someone correct me if I'm wrong) BOTH parents could count their time while studying with their children, instead of just one.
These things allow for faders to keep reporting, too, remember, if they have kids or if they happen to be old or in some way ill or injured.
Taking all this into account, and looking at the 2.5% DEcrease in USA baptisms (from 35597 down to 34739, is my math right?), the 4% increase has to come from the new methods of gathering the statistics. It isn't coming from new Jehovah's Witnesses.

Cognitive Dissonance
by Quillsky inthe term cognitive dissonance is thrown around often on this forum, and rightly so, imo.
it has been discussed before and will be discussed going forward, but another thread made me realize that perhaps now is a good time to re-open the discussion.. in brief, cognitive dissonance is how our minds work to close the gap between our attitudes and what we believe to be true, and what we do and experience to be true.
our minds want to close that gap, or reduce the dissonance.. so if what we believe doesn't match with what we're doing, we shift our minds to close the gap.

Understanding congnitive dissonance can be a useful tool in getting Dubs to think. Good thread idea Quillsky.
I'd also be interested in some information about how people generally, and Dubs specifically, tend to handle the cognitive dissonance that is inevitable due to their wacky beliefs.

"It is our Personal Responsibility to Turn In People who are Sinning"
by WalkTall inat the last two meetings i have been to, two brothers mentioned in their parts that we have a personal responsibility to turn in someone we know who is involved in wrongdoing.
they both said we need to do this out of love and because we could also lose our own relationship with jehovah if we fail to do so.
it struck how odd this all is.

monkeyman mentioned not going to war which sprung a question in my mind.
Since 1980 when blood transfusion remained as the sole organ transplant forbidden by the borg, how many have died for not taking blood as compared to the numbers killed in combat? I would guess war has killed more but the difference may not be as great as one might think at first blush. It hasn't been a particularly bloody three decades compared to the century before 1980.
